Check-Ups & Cleanings

Regular cleanings are a key part of preventive dental care. At Dentology Dental, these appointments are designed to support oral health, reduce the risk of disease, and allow for early identification of overall health concerns.

What is Involved at Your Appointment?

Your providers will obtain the necessary records, such as dental radiographs, full mouth digital scan with iTero and conduct a full head, neck and oral exam. This includes a thorough oral cancer screening and a treatment plan for any required dental work.

During a dental cleaning, plaque and tough tartar buildup are removed, teeth are polished, and proper brushing and flossing technique is reviewed. Consistent cleanings are crucial for the maintenance of oral health.

Why Check-Ups & Cleanings Are Important

  • Early detection can prevent potential costly treatment and/or loss of teeth
  • Proper removal of plaque and tartar buildup lowers the risk of tooth decay and bone disease
  • Maintain the integrity of existing dental restorations

Preventive care plays an important role in minimizing the need for more extensive dental treatment in the future.

How Often Cleanings Are Recommended

We recommend the average healthy adult attend a cleaning once every six months. However, recommendations are dependent on:

  • Gum health
  • History of periodontal disease
  • Cavity risk
  • Oral hygiene effectiveness
  • Medical conditions and medications

If periodontal concerns are identified, treatment options such as Periodontal Therapy may be recommended before ongoing maintenance care can continue.

Appointment Needs

Some patients experience dental anxiety, heightened sensitivity, or difficulty tolerating dental procedures. For these individuals, anesthetic or Nitrous Oxide may be appropriate.

Sedation options are discussed in advance, and suitability is determined on an individual basis. For more information, check out our anxiety solutions.
